Jordan Briceland | Other Shores
Other Shoresis a journey that started in South Korea and continues in Emporia, KS. The repurposed objects in the assemblage pieces were found either on the sea shores and city streets of Korea or pulled from old barns and muddy river banks of Kansas. Working as an English Instructor in Busan for nearly seven years, Jordan continued his artistic endeavors while confined to a small apartment with limited resources at his disposal. The objects found during walks to work or on weekend hikes were a starting point for an idea or design that grew into something unexpected. Very little is planned. Instead, the act of creation is used as a meditation: Finding a balance between chaos and order by reconfiguring found objects.

Hannah Worthen | Living Out Loud
I love Kansas, animals, color, and art. My art is often a collaboration
of all these things. I want to share with others the way I see Kansas and animals
through my eyes.My biggest inspiration is my daughter. She is the reason I
picked the brush back up.I hope to inspire others to create! To see the beauty of
their surroundings.Exhibition on display July 5 - 27, 2024

Kat Dorcas | Negative Space
The concept of negative space in art and design refers to the empty area that lacks detail in order to enhance readability and focus.
In this exhibition, I have formed simple shapes with carved and sculpted areas that create negative space within the structure. Minimal glaze emphasizes the shape and texture.
With these works, rather than focusing on what is not there, the negative space is an essential part of what completes the whole.
Exhibition on display May 29 - June 29, 2024

Jerry Lynn Troxell
Jerry Troxell was born September 24, 1944 on a farm near Sabetha, Kansas. Growing up on a farm with four sisters was the “single most important influence” to his painting. His childhood outdoors gave him a deep appreciation for sunlight, shadows, and seasons. As Jerry explained in a 1995 artist statement:
“I am still entranced by the bittersweet feeling of dusk as the bright, bleached landscape is replaced by shards of oranges and pinks - punctuated by slices of violet. A temperature somewhere between warm and cool replaces the daytime heat, and the cacophony of day is replaced by evening sounds and the regrouping of the family. I feel a strong kinship to the exquisite randomness of nature and the ways it is pulled together by light and shadows to create subtle harmonious hues - accented by darts and splashes of pure color.”
Jerry began formal art instruction at Highland Junior College. Afterwards, he attended Emporia State University, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, later returning for a Master’s degree. In 1970, Jerry began teaching at Emporia High School. For the next 36 years, he would teach photography, jewelry making, pottery, computer graphics, and painting, as well as serving as the department head. After his retirement, Jerry continued his love of arts education by teaching classes for children and adults at the Emporia Arts Council. Jerry passed away December 13, 2015 after a lifetime of creative and educational endeavors.
Trox Gallery and Gifts was lovingly named after Mr. Troxell because of his incredible impact on Emporia's art community. We strive to honor his legacy by making the Arts inclusive and accessible to everyone.
